We are gonna put Appy Primary and Appy Elem in line for a gym, that is why nobody has ever played a game at our Elem School, we don't have a GYM for ANY of the EIGHT Grades there.

are they goin to put pound and kelly together?

Basham sent out a press release to all of the school board members saying that he wants the immediate consolidation of Pound, Appy, and St. Paul by the end of this year. they will be voting on it on Monday!!

There are several threads on this issue and if you can muddle through some of the more confusing stuff you can probably get an idea of what's actually going on. But, here's a recap as I understand it thus far:

1. Many irrate people trying to organize to stop something that hasn't even formally been presented yet while others are asking for patience and understanding until something factual and real actually is presented.
2. No real proposal on the table thus far -- just a lot of rumors, speculation, accusations and misinformation.
3. The superintendent is supposed to give his recommendation to the school board on Monday concerning a possible scenario for school "closings" or consolidation.
4. His recommendation is reportedly similar to the one that came out in 2000 where Appy is merged with PV, Pound with JJK and St. Paul with Coeburn, BUT no one really knows this yet because he hasn't presented it yet.
5. The School Board will probably reject his plan because A) it is flawed and simply isn't workable and B) there isn't any reason to be in such a hurry to do anything this quickly.
6. My head hurts from reading all the stuff that has already been posted on this topic and we still don't have anything concrete to fuss about.

Absolutely no reason to operate 6 high schools in a county with a population of less than 45K.

shew it seems as though this forum EXPLODED from last night around 11 when channel 11 done the article til now. but i read all the post and see several good and bad things. i mean if we r getting a state of the art school wiht more advanced classes it would be great. at jjk we have several advanced classes mainly because the school board is tersting them out on us. we also get to go to the tech school for miss abbott's ap history and ms estep govornment. and also latin. we r a little more privlegded(sp?) than other school in the county. also theres no way jjk will go to pound. with it being so close to the school board and all. also we have one of the nicest baseball fields in the LPD here. our football field is also one of the nicest. pounds baseball and football share a field and truley it isnt a good field. footbal is better but both arent great. if we do consolodate, we would most likely move to AA and get dominated. no way a 700 school can compete w/ a 1000 school. jst my opinions though

Well of course Kelly is gonna get the first shot at this and that. You think they would close a school as you pointed out right in the heart of the county seat and a rock's throw from the AD buildings.
Heck Kelly can't even keep a football coach. So that is to encourage Pound students. Last year with the second best coach they have had in years, even with a down season. Most were calling for his head. Even was accused of assault and battery.
But you think the SB or AD are gonna touch the county seat, as far as moving? Now come on. You talking politics now. That won't happen. Which is one reason many are asking, why no mention of 3 new schools. And why did Kelly and others get this advanced stuff first. Umm duh it was already in the works, i kind of posted about Wise County and corruption the other day to be told i was basically wrong. Well how wrong was i? Seems a lot has come together to show, maybe this ole Dawg wasn't far off the mark. Even those on the SB say the vote will got out 5-3. So they even know something. Mrs. Gregory and Mr. Fletcher stated that themselves. So who's lying? This has been in the works for a long time, problem is. To many kept the blinders on.
Like i said do it right. I'll vote for it. But do it wrong. No way Josa
